Everything you need to know about the Kindle Scribe 2025 range

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Kindle Scribe Colorsoft

Amazon has rolled out a revamped Kindle Scribe 2025 lineup, and it’s not just your old e-reader with a pen. The new range includes a refreshed monochrome Scribe and introduces a colour Scribe.

In its announcement, Amazon describes lighter builds, AI-powered notebook features, and more responsive performance across the board.

Thinner, lighter, faster

The new Scribe measures only 5.4 mm thick and weighs around 400g, representing a substantial reduction over previous generations.

Amazon says it’s now 40% faster when writing or flipping pages. With an 11-inch glare-free display, it mimics the dimensions of letter paper, making full-sized document reviewing and natural note-taking feel more intuitive.

It also features a redesigned front-light system with tightly packed LEDs to trim the bezel, and a texture-moulded glass layer to improve pen friction.

A reworked display stack shrinks parallax, so writing feels closer to paper than ever. Under the hood, there’s a new quad-core chip, more memory, and updated Oxide display tech to support the smoother experience.

Colour meets writing

There are three versions of the Kindle 2025 range: two standard models, one of which is available without a light, and the Colorsoft version. It continues the branding we first saw on the Kindle Colorsoft.

The new Kindle Scribe Colorsoft brings colour to writing without sacrificing readability. Rather than using a full LCD, it employs a custom Colorsoft display system that filters light and enhances detail so that writing feels soft and legible.

You’ll find 10 pen colours, 5 highlighter shades, and a “shader” tool for smooth gradients. With weeks-long battery life and no distractions from apps, Amazon is betting it becomes a go-to for creators and notetakers alike.

Smarter notebooks

A standout addition is the AI-powered notebook, which lets you search across your handwritten notes and get summaries or follow-up questions.

Documents from Google Drive and OneDrive can be imported and annotated, and notebooks can be exported into OneNote. The home interface now includes Quick Notes, and Amazon says integration with Alexa+ will let you carry on conversations about your notes starting next year.

Putting it in context

The original Kindle Scribe has already earned praise as a top choice as one of the best e-readers, where its smooth writing feel and reading experience stood out. With the additions in 2025, the new range appears to lean deeper into hybrid device territory less purely e-reader, more powerful notetaker.

This feels like the moment Kindle Scribe steps into its own. The design, color writing, and AI tools don’t just add bells and whistles, they also aim to shift how we think about digital notebooks. If Amazon nails responsiveness and note-search accuracy, the 2025 Scribe could become essential for anyone who reads and writes.

Price and Release Date

The Kindle Scribe with a front light will start at $499.99/£449.99 while the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will start at $629.99/£649.99.

The Kindle Scribe without a front light will, unsurprisingly, be slightly cheaper than the model with one, and will start at $429.99/£389.99.

The Kindle Scribe and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft are expected to launch in the UK “later this year”, while the Scribe without a front light will launch “early next year”. They’re coming to the US in November.
