Google is expanding its smart home lineup once again, with a new Gemini-powered Google Home Speaker confirmed for release in Spring 2026.
The device, which comes in four different colours and is priced at £99.99 / $99.99, was quietly listed on the Google Store yesterday alongside the latest Pixel phones and Nest products.
Smarter sound for the connected home
The Gemini speaker is the latest evolution of the Google Home line, bringing the company’s generative AI platform into the mix. Unlike older Nest speakers that relied on Google Assistant’s more limited voice commands, Gemini promises richer, more conversational interactions. So instead of just firing off basic commands, you’ll be able to ask follow-up questions, manage routines, or even build shopping lists in a way that feels more like a real conversation.
Google is also positioning the speaker as a hub for its broader ecosystem. It will slot neatly into setups that include the Pixel 10 Pro or the Pixel Watch 4, and it will pair with new Nest cameras and doorbells, some of which were announced at the same time.
A focus on accessibility and price
At £99, the Gemini speaker is undercutting its premium rivals. Amazon’s latest Echo Studio and Apple’s HomePod are more expensive, while compact options like the Echo Dot and Nest Mini sit at a lower tier. In that sense, the Gemini speaker seems designed to land in the sweet spot: affordable enough to reach a wide audience, yet powerful enough to act as the main speaker in a home.
Sound quality remains a big question mark, though. Google has yet to detail the audio hardware inside, but if it follows the approach of the Nest Audio, expect a balance of clear vocals and solid bass rather than audiophile-grade performance.
Gemini at the centre
Perhaps the bigger selling point is how deeply the speaker integrates Gemini features. Google is already teasing the ability to generate summaries, explain context from your notes, and even create AI-powered routines that combine multiple services. We already know that the Google Home app is getting a Gemini-infused redesign.
This integration could be a step ahead of what’s currently possible with Alexa, but we’ll have to wait to see how they stack up once we get both in for testing.
Opinion
The Gemini smart speaker doesn’t reinvent the category, but it signals Google’s intent to keep pace in the AI-powered home space. At this price point, it could appeal to anyone who wants more than a basic assistant without paying a premium. The real test will be how well Gemini integrates with everyday tasks compared with Alexa.
