Apple’s next big iPhone might also be its heaviest to date.
A new leak suggests the iPhone 18 Pro Max could cross the 240g mark, potentially making it the heaviest iPhone ever made.
According to the Weibo-based leaker Instant Digital, the upcoming Pro Max will keep its 6.9-inch display, but a slightly thicker chassis means it could weigh around 243 grams — roughly 10g heavier than the iPhone 17 Pro Max and about 3g more than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which currently holds the weight record.
Apple’s material choices have shifted a lot in recent years. After going from stainless steel to titanium to cut down weight in the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple then moved to aluminium for the 17 series, a lighter metal, but one that came with internal redesigns and larger batteries that bumped the weight back up.
If this leak is accurate, the new vapour chamber cooling system made of stainless steel could also be adding some weight. The thicker body could also hint at a bigger battery, but that’s not the only likely culprit.
Rumours point to a variable-aperture main camera and a new three-layer stacked image sensor developed by Samsung, both of which could increase the phone’s internal bulk. Apple may also be tweaking the Dynamic Island and Face ID hardware, though those details aren’t yet confirmed.
Instant Digital, who has previously leaked accurate details like the Yellow iPhone 14 and the Titanium Milanese Loop for the Apple Watch Ultra 2, doesn’t have a spotless track record, so as always, take this with a grain of salt.
Still, if true, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could end up with an “unwanted title”: the heaviest iPhone in history. But if that extra heft translates to better battery life and camera performance, most users might not mind the weight gain.
The iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to debut in fall 2026.
