Google Pixel 10 Pro on blanket back

Google is finally delivering on a promise it made back in September: call recording is now rolling out globally to more Pixel phones through the Phone by Google app.

The feature, initially announced for the Pixel 6 and newer, appears to be rolling out broadly following the latest app and system updates.

After updating to the new Phone app, which is version 200.0 in our case, call recording appeared instantly on a Pixel 10 Pro and a Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Reports suggest it’s appearing on both the public beta and the stable channel, starting with version 198.

But there’s a catch: you’ll also need the November Pixel Drop installed. On a Pixel 8 Pro running an older system build, the feature didn’t appear until the OS update was applied.

Once everything’s up to date, you can turn it on by heading to Settings > Call Assist > Call Recording in the Phone app. Pixel owners can manually record calls, auto-record specific contacts, or even set the phone to capture conversations from unknown numbers.

The first time you make a call after enabling the feature, Google will prompt you with a brief explanation of how recordings are handled and how the person on the other end is notified. And yes, the Phone app automatically plays a beep or spoken announcement to ensure both sides are aware that the call is being recorded.

Google’s rules vary slightly depending on the device. Pixel models must be Pixel 6 or newer and running Android 14 or above, while non-Pixel phones using the Phone by Google app can record calls as long as they’re on Android 9 or later.

One important reminder: recording laws vary by country and state. Some regions require two-party consent, others require only one, but Google has opted for the safer approach by notifying the other caller automatically.

With call recording now live on newer Pixel models worldwide, it’s one of the more substantial upgrades to the Phone app we’ve seen in a while, especially for users who rely on call logs for work, interviews, or support documentation.
