Amazon’s Echo Dot Max speaker hasn’t even been out for a month yet, and it’s already on a Black Friday offer.
The Echo Dot Max is yet another addition to Amazon’s ever-expanding portfolio of smart speakers, the latest version of the company’s flagship Dot speaker, but unlike its predecessors, the Dot Max packs quite a few premium features for its price point.
Today, it’s 10% cheaper at £89.99, making it one of those deals that are ideal for those who want the next-gen smart speaker, as it’s designed to replace the traditional Echo.

As someone who took a chance on the Echo Dot Gen 5 and has been using it every single day since, I can tell you that it’s no brainer – if you make one upgrade to your smart home set-up this year, let it be the Echo Dot Max successor.
It’s reported to pack three times the bass of the Echo Dot, which gives you some idea of the sounds you can expect.
That’s with a high-excursion woofer for those deeper bass sounds, and a custom tweeter for sharper high notes that you find in your favourite tracks.

When it comes to Amazon’s smart speaker software, you’ve not only got complete Alexa functionality as always, but also the new Alexa+ integration, which Amazon will be rolling out throughout the rest of the year and into 2026.
Alexa+ is designed to be a layer above what the digital assistant is already capable of, streamlining the operation of your smart home devices so that they can work better together.
Having all of these features in tow, alongside a step-up in sound quality, makes the case for opting for the Dot Max a pretty easy sell.
Improved bass, better overall audio quality and a Zigbee/Thread smart home hub built in, the Amazon Echo Dot Max might be more expensive than its predecessor but it’s a clear upgrade. If you want the best audio quality then the Echo Studio (2025) is a better choice, while those with the old Echo (4th Generation) will find that they have slightly better audio quality. However, for new users looking for an Alexa smart speaker that’s decent for music, this is the best all-rounder – it would be nice to see Alexa+ in the UK to really maximise its capabilities, though.
Pros
-
Decent audio for the size -
Full smart home hub -
Ready for Alexa+
Cons
-
Doesn’t sound as good as the old standard Echo
