Google Calendar is finally treating tasks like real calendar events, letting you block focused time for them right in your schedule.
You can now block off focused time for a specific task, so meetings and calls stop creeping into the space you intended for actual work. It is a small tweak that could really change how a lot of people use Calendar every day.
Google says the new option lives right inside the calendar grid. Click or tap on an empty slot and instead of creating an event, choose Task. You can then pick an existing task or add a new one and write a short description. You also decide how visible that block is to others and whether it should trigger Do Not Disturb so notifications ease off while you are trying to get things done.
The smart bit is that this does not create some separate kind of calendar entry that lives on its own island. The task block shows up as a normal block of time in Calendar, and it also appears in your Google Tasks list. You will keep getting reminders about it until you actually mark it as complete, which nudges you to finish the work instead of just dragging the block around the week like digital guilt.
There is nothing new for admins to flip on, which means the feature is enabled by default across Google Workspace and personal accounts. Rapid Release domains started seeing it from November 6, 2025, with a slower release spread over more than 15 days. Scheduled Release domains get it from December 1, with the usual gradual phase-in, so it may take a little while before it pops up in every account.
The update is available to all Google Workspace tiers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and standard personal Google accounts, so nearly anyone in the Google ecosystem can use it.
Google also points users to a Help Center guide that walks through reserving time for tasks, but the basic flow is simple enough that most people will stumble into it. If you already use time blocking, syncing tasks with Calendar turns it into a cleaner, more reliable way to organise your week.
