You can get ereaders in all shapes and sizes, from the big-screen Kobo Elipsa 2E to the more compact Boox Palma 2 – but it’s the good ol’ entry-level Kindle that I keep coming back to. When it comes to reading ebooks, the experience should be simple, comfortable and accessible – elements embodied by the 2024 Kindle.
And, with a tempting Black Friday offer knocking £25 off its RRP, it’s cheaper than ever.

Amazon’s entry-level Kindle just got even cheaper, making it a great time to upgrade from an older model or tip your toe into the world of Kindles.

£64.99
At that price, it’s practically being given away, making it an absolute steal, whether you read a lot of books or are considering upgrading from an older, bulkier Kindle model.
It might be the basic, most affordable reading device from Amazon, but the Kindle 2024 is just as easy to recommend as its predecessor. Even though there’s a distinct lack of luxury features like a warm light and wireless charging, this still gets the job done and remains perfect for those who just want to read books without distraction.
Pros
-
Tasteful new colour -
The smallest Kindle option -

It’s easy to say that the Kindle’s popularity is down to the expansive collection of digital books and audiobooks through the Kindle Store and Audible – but there’s much more to it than that. The Kindle hardware is actually pretty impressive for the price.
The Kindle (2024) represents the most affordable way into the Kindle world, but it still gets you a sharp, 6-inch easy-on-the-eyes E Ink display, weeks-long battery life and, of course, access to Amazon’s enormous ebook store.
It’s lighter and more compact than other Kindle models and similar ereaders from Kobo, so it’s perfect for chucking in a bag or even a coat pocket, and it’s still lovely to hold for long reading sessions.
Despite the entry-level price, the core reading experience feels decidedly premium. Text is crisp, page turns are snappy, and the front light makes it comfortable to read both indoors and out, without the glare you’d get from a tablet.

You still get all the Kindle perks too – elements like adjustable fonts and layouts, dark mode for late-night chapters, Bluetooth for Audible listening and enough storage to hold thousands of books. For most people, that’s all you’ll ever need from an ereader.
Whether you’re upgrading from a very old Kindle, want a dedicated reading device alongside your tablet, or you’re simply Kindle-curious and don’t want to overspend, the Kindle 2024 hits a lovely sweet spot – especially at its newly discounted price point.
