Tesla could finally add a key feature for iPhone users after years of waiting

Apple CarPlay

Tesla has always made a point of refusing Apple CarPlay, but that might finally be changing.

Bloomberg has reported that Tesla is actually testing CarPlay support internally, which is a huge turnaround after years of flat-out saying no to phone projection in its cars. The company’s been stubborn about this.

Tesla’s position had always been clear, saying its own in-car software beats Apple’s or Android’s hands down.

Elon Musk has repeatedly argued that the company can deliver a more seamless experience by keeping everything native, a view surprisingly shared by some traditional automakers, such as GM.

The situation in 2025 might be a bit different, however. Tesla could be looking for ways to get people excited again, and adding Apple CarPlay, once unthinkable, may now be a strategic necessity. With consumer demand for such systems stronger than ever, Tesla risks losing buyers over a missing feature.

If Tesla does roll out CarPlay, don’t expect the full Apple experience that other brands are promising. Bloomberg says Tesla is going for a more limited version, running CarPlay inside a windowed interface rather than letting it dominate the entire display. The report also says that Tesla will be sticking with regular CarPlay, not Apple’s new CarPlay Ultra, which would let you integrate things like speed, climate control, and other vehicle data.

That limitation will disappoint some folks, but even partial CarPlay support could make a difference, and we’re sure most Tesla drivers with an iPhone Air in their pocket would support the change.
