If your TV subscription bill keeps creeping up until it feels like you’re paying rent on a second apartment, you’re not alone.
There’s a potential saviour on the horizon. The long-awaited Humax Freely box has just leaked, and it could be the gadget that helps you ditch those monthly Sky and Virgin charges for good.
Officially called the Humax Aura EZ 4K Freely Recorder, the yet-unannounced set-top box quietly appeared on Humax’s own website before swiftly being pulled down, a sure sign that something exciting is brewing.
Cord Busters spotted it before it vanished, confirming that the device is real, and Humax admits it’s “under internal testing and development” right now.
This isn’t just another streaming gadget. The Freely box mixes live broadcast TV and streaming, so you can watch and record the UK’s big channels like BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, and U without needing an aerial or satellite dish.
Forget missing shows, too. You can scroll back through the guide and jump straight into the shows you missed, instantly launching into apps like BBC iPlayer or ITVX.

Early listings show a £249 price and support for recording up to four channels at once. It gives serious appeal as a free-to-view alternative to Sky Q, Sky Stream, and Virgin TV 360, especially if you’re tired of paying monthly.
One thing to note is that it’s rumoured to be a hybrid box. You can stream everything freely over the internet, but if you want to record, you’ll probably still need to rely on a traditional antenna signal.
That’s a win, offering more flexibility if your WiFi’s patchy or you live somewhere with mixed coverage.
Humax isn’t the only player in the Freely space either. Netgem’s also cooking up its own version, too. With Freely moving beyond built-in smart TV apps and into standalone set-top boxes, the free-TV revolution looks ready to make a big comeback.
