Xiaomi’s latest smart home gadget isn’t your average door lock. The new Smart Door Lock M40 Pro, launched in China, packs a built-in display, AI-powered cameras, and a staggering 12 different ways to unlock your door – including facial recognition, fingerprint, and even palm vein scanning.

The M40 Pro looks more like a mini security hub than a standard lock. On the outside, you’ll find dual cameras – a 3MP main sensor with a wide 175° field of view, and a 2MP secondary lens covering 128°. Together, they support both full-colour and infrared night vision, letting you clearly see who’s at your door even in the dark. The system’s AI can also recognise people, pets, and packages, sending alerts straight to your phone via the Xiaomi Home app if anything looks off.

Inside, a 5-inch digital display shows a live feed from the cameras, so you can check the door without grabbing your phone. You can also review historical footage through the app, which supports remote viewing and tamper alerts.

For connectivity, the lock supports Bluetooth 5.3, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and Xiaomi HyperOS Connect, which also syncs seamlessly with the brand’s wider smart home ecosystem. Xiaomi also boasts a quieter locking mechanism and a high-security C-level lock cylinder that is built to last and resist forced entry.

Meanwhile power comes from an 8,000mAh lithium battery paired with four AA backups, which offers around six months of runtime before needing a recharge.

The Smart Door Lock M40 Pro is priced at CNY 3,799 (around £450 / $533) and is currently exclusive to China, with no word yet on an international release. Given Xiaomi’s growing smart home lineup in Europe, though, there’s a fair chance it could eventually make its way west.

With sleek hardware, advanced security features, and enough unlocking methods, Xiaomi’s M40 Pro might just be the smartest and most secure door on the block.
